One of my first LevelDesign Workshop, of which I am still proud today. 
Here the objective was to choose a game and create a new level as well as the mechanics that result from it.

On my side, I chose to design a new level for Bread & Fred, a Co-op platformer where the goal is to climb a single level divided into different area. The theme of my level is hot caves.

What's my concept ?

2 new mechanics:

  • Geysers : Geysers are delimited areas from which water flows intermittently, allowing players to propel themselves.
  • Burning Surface : If a player touches a burning surface, he will pass into a state of ‘burn’. In this state, the character runs continuously, and those much faster than normal. This can allow players to perform longer jumps. Moreover, if the players swing and the one who is swaying is burned, it will add inertia to the swing movement, allowing the players to propel themselves further, or higher, depending on the swing jump angle performed.
    (at any time, the player can get out of the burning state by pressing the crouch key, allowing to easily keep control of the character.)

Combined mecanics:

In addition, the mechanics can be combined to be propelled even further and higher.
These mechanics aim to bring new dynamics to the gameplay of bread & fred. The burning state brings more tense phases of action where things happen quickly, countering the difficult gameplay but at the usual steady pace, while expanding the range of movement available in the game.
