The Untilted Climb Game is a Prototype inspired by WhiteKnuckle and Peaks of Yor where you have to climb through the levels using PickAxe and a GrapplingHook.

This game is one of our first prototypes on UnrealEngine 5.
Here the objective was to create a prototype of a concept that could be successful in the market, all based on data from SteamDataBase.

During this project :

My contribution:

  • Reflect with the rest of the team on choosing an interesting and relevant concept for all of us.
  • Participate in the integration of pickaxe and grapple mechanics.
  • Work on the LevelDesign as well as its balancing.
  • Work on the integration of the UI (Menu, CheckPoint Animation, 3DCrossHair…).
  • Work on VFX (SpeedLine, CameraShake…)

The constraints encountered were:

  • The apprehension of UE5: We were beginners on UE5 and therefore each task required more research and investment.
  • The implementation of grapple mechanics: To find a relevant result, much research has been done on the Physics Constraint Component of UE5.

This project targeted fans of climbing games, but also speedrun. Once the prototype was finished, we shared it and several people started to speedrun it. It was very interesting to see how the players adapted to our LevelDesign to save time.
