Study Project

Unity

Palette Panic is a 2D platformer concept. Our main goal was to make an unique movement mecanic : The character can only walk on the colorful platforms, and can throw spray paint to cover the field and move forward. Moreover, the explosion of this bomb allows the player to propel themselves to be able to reach places normally unreachable.

During this project :

My contribution:

  • Set up with 3 other GD of a GameConceptDocument.
  • Designed and Integrated the majority of the character ability and system (Throwing paint, Rolling paint, get propulse by paint, checkpoint system, Key and door system)
  • Designed and integrated some VFX
  • Managed a part of the In-Game UI.

The constraints encountered:

  • 1st GameEngine Project : At this moment we didn’t had a lot of Unity Experience, so everything was harder at this time.
  • The scope of the project: For a first project, our scope was clearly too large, whether it be with the complexity of the mechanics, but also the quantity that was planned.
  • The project team: For this project we were supposed to be 4 GameDesigner. Saddly, only me and one other were really working for it to work. Because of that, our game didn’t make it through the 3C Milestones.

With the team’s lack of investment, and our game scope, we didn’t pass the second milestone.  Even if it was at the time sad news for me, it allowed me later to better understand the evolution of my projects, and the scope that we can set.
